You need a valid Glance Address to access the Glance service. Sign up for a Free Trial, or Subscribe. It takes just two minutes.
Install Glance
Glance software must be installed on your Mac (or PC) before you can show its screen. Download now. Drag Glance to your Applications folder and launch it.
Glance places a "G" icon in your dock and (optionally) your menu bar. You use Glance by clicking the "G" to open its one-button menu.
The Glance Menu
Click the "G"-icon in your dock or menu bar to open Glance's one-button menu. The menu lets you start, run and end Glance sessions easily.
Tip: To quickly open the dock's G-icon menu, control-click (right-click) it.
Single-click the "G" icon to see Glance's menu.
Start Session... makes it possible for guests to see your live Mac screen. If you are starting your first session, you will be prompted to enter your Glance Address and password.
End Session allows you to end the session for all guests. You will be prompted to confirm this selection.
Hide / Show Screen is active after you start a session. Choose Hide Screen when you do not want your guests to see your screen. This does not end your session. Choose Show Screen to resume showing your screen.
The border around your screen vanishes and the Glance icon in your menu bar and/or dock flashes when your screen is hidden. Each guest's viewer sees the message "Screen not being shown" on a white background. Everyone stays connected.
Allow / Stop Remote Control lets you share control of your mouse and keyboard with your guests.
Session Info shows how many guests are in your session and how to invite additional guests.
Join Session... lets you view someone else's Glance session.
Preferences... lets you control how Glance behaves.
The Account tab shows your Glance Address. Clear blanks the Glance Address and Password. Manage takes you to the login page for your account online, where account administrators can view detailed usage reports, add and remove Glance Addresses, update billing information, and change passwords. You should never need to change the Glance Service address.
The Advanced tab lets you select how Glance generates session keys. Select Prompt me... if you like telling guests beforehand what four-digit key you will use for a future session. When that date rolls around and you start the session, Glance will prompt you for the key. In rare instances, Glance Customer Care may ask you to Always tunnel to alter the way you connect to the Glance service.
Starting a Session
Anytime you need to show your screen to someone online, click the "G" icon in your dock or menu bar and choose Start Session.
A Session Information window opens. It lists your Glance web page address and Session Key, which your guests need to connect.
Tip: To recall your session key during a session, hover your mouse over the "G"-icon in your menu bar. Alternatively, click the "G"-icon and choose Session Info.
Joining a Session
Guests usually join your session with their web browser. Start a session while your guests are on the phone and ask them to:
- Browse to your Glance web page.
- Enter the Session Key and click the Join Session button.
Alternatively, you can click the email button on your Session Information window to create an email with a link to your session. Add anything you like and send it to your guests.
To invite people you text message, click the copy button. This puts a link to your session on your clipboard. Paste the link into a message and send it to your guests.
Guests can also connect from your company's website. Add a Glance box to any web page with just two lines of HTML. Tell your guests to enter the session's key and click the Glance button. Moments later, they see your screen.
Clicking the Can you Glance link takes them to a web page that checks their computer for Glance compatibility. It's located at www.glance.net/CanYouGlance.
Finally, you can join someone else's Glance session from within Glance. Click your "G"-icon and choose Join Session. Enter your guest's Glance web page address and session key.
Hiding Your Screen
During the session, if you need to look at something in private, hide your screen.
Click the "G"-icon and choose Hide Screen. Your guests stay connected, but their view of your screen turns white, along with a message saying Screen not being shown.
When ready, click the "G"-icon and choose Show Screen.
Tip: The yellow border around your screen vanishes and the "G"-icon flashes whenever your screen is hidden.
Allowing Remote Control
During a session, you can share control of your mouse and keyboard with your guests. Single-click the G icon and choose Allow Remote Control. The border around your screen changes from yellow to red.
When you Allow Remote Control, each guest's pointer says "Click to control". A guest clicks his mouse to get control. Only one guest at a time can have control.
When a guest has control, a red dot appears over their cursor.
To temporarily take back control from a guest, move your mouse or type. That guest's pointer changes to a circle-slashed arrow. Pause a few seconds to let a guest regain control.
When done, click your G icon and select Stop Remote Control.
No one can get control of your computer when you don't allow it. We suggest that you not leave remote control running unattended.
Ending or Leaving a Session
Glance behaves like a telephone call. Guests can come and go, but when the last guest leaves, the session ends and its key expires.
Guests leave by closing their viewer window. As session host, you can end your session at any time, disconnecting everyone. Click the "G"-icon and choose End Session.
Creating Keys for Future Sessions
Every Glance session has a four-digit Session Key.
You can have Glance ask you what key to use, instead of getting a random one. This gives you key predictability for sessions you schedule.
Click the "G"-icon. Choose Preferences > Advanced > Prompt me to provide a key when starting each session.
Send an invitation email with your Glance web page address, a four-digit session key (make one up), conference phone number, scheduled time and agenda.
Just before the event, start a session. Glance will prompt you for the session's key. Enter the key in your invitation.
